Patras Carnival
The Patras Carnival is the largest and oldest carnival event in the city and in the whole country. It is identified around the middle of the 19th century and is considered one of the most important carnivals in Europe. This is a set of events organized by the Public Benefit Enterprise of the Municipality of Patras-Carnival of Patras, which starts on January 17 each year and lasts until Shrove Monday. From the day of the Opening Ceremony until the Closing Ceremony, spectacular and impressive events develop, dances, theatrical performances, parades, exhibitions, artistic activities, concerts and games, such as the Children's Carnival, the Bourboulia and the Hidden Treasure which has been established since 1966. On the last weekend of the Carnival, two large chariot parades take place, which include plenty of laughter and dancing, culminating in the ritual burning of the Carnival King at the Pier of Agios Nikolaos.
