BYRONIC SOCIETY OF THE HOLY CITY OF MESSOLOGGIO

The proposed project concerns the establishment of a museum on the occasion of 200 years since the beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821, for Lord Byron - Philhellenism & the Greek Revolution of 1821, on the 1st floor of BYRONEIO, where free educational programs will be implemented by Philology Professors (its members) to students of Schools (in primary and secondary education), who visit its sites and with a tour of Historical and Archaeological sites, and wishes the educational programs to be done with the new technology, digital, interactive, experiential and more accessible to students of primary and secondary education.

1. "Discovering Messolonghi through its History - Visit to the Garden of Heroes"

2. "Greek Revolution and Philhellenism"

3. "The Poet and Philhellene Lord of Byron"

4. "In Aetolia of Myths & History with Lord Byron" (with visits to archeological sites). The program is offered, in co-organization, by the Byronic Society and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Etoloakarnania & Lefkada.

 

"Introduction to Greek traditional costumes"

PERMANENT EQUIPMENT for the digital, interactive, experiential presentation of the Educational Programs to the students at the Schools of Primary and Secondary Education, of the Region of Western Greece as well as of the whole Country.

The Byronic Society offers free educational programs from philological Professors (its members) to students at Schools (Primary & Secondary education), who visit its sites and tour the Historical and Archaeological sites.

TODAY we establish a MUSEUM on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821, for Lord Byron - Philhellenism & the Greek Revolution of 1821, on the 1st floor of BYRONEIO and wishes the educational programs to be done with new technology , digital, interactive, experiential and more interesting for students of primary and secondary education.

The Byronic Society of the Holy City of Messolonghi, has created the only "International Center for Research & Study for Lord Byron and Philhellenism" in Greece, with a comprehensive, standard literary and historical library (more than 3,000 books), with works by Lord Byron, works of others written about him, works around Romanticism and the Philhellenic movement of the 19th century but also works of other contemporary poets and writers.

The International Center for Research and Study for Lord Byron is the only Philhellenic Center in Greece and acquires special importance because it is located in the most glorious city of the Struggle, the only Holy City, the City of Freedom, Messolonghi, where the poet left his last breath, on April 19, 1824.

Already due to its international recognition, thousands of Greeks and foreigners, visit this Byronic-Philhellenic Center for free and participate in its activities. In collaboration with the Historical Ethnological Society of Greece - National History Museum, the Byronic Society has acquired two permanent exhibitions.

A) "Greek Revolution and European Philhellenism", with material from 100 paintings of Philhellenic Engravings of the 19th century, from the collections of the National Historical Museum (reproduction), with an accompanying explanatory Catalog of the Exhibition.

B) "The Navy in the Struggle of 1821", with material from the Collections and the Archive of Historical Documents of the National Historical Museum (reproduction), with emphasis on the Navy's contribution to the Second Siege of Messolonghi, through written sources of the National Historical Museum, as well as the situation of the Besieged, as reflected in letters kept in the Archive of Historical I.E.E.E. Documents.

 

Project duration: 2021 and forever.
